If you are on the hunt for a modern 2-in-1 laptop but don’t want to spend too much money on it, the HP Envy x360 15 (15-fe0000) is one of the possible solutions. This is a multipurpose machine thanks to the long battery life and the good cooling system. The optional Core i7-1355U can maintain 2.86 GHz for the P cores and 2.13 GHz for the E cores in long loads which is a pretty good result for a laptop with transforming capabilities. The keyboard doesn’t feel too hot to the touch when the internals are heavily stressed (in “Performance” mode). In this case, the fan becomes audible but it doesn’t sound like a vacuum cleaner. For standard daily tasks, just use the “Quiet” preset or the “Smart Sense” auto mode that offers a less aggressive fan curve. The biggest surprise here is the 1080p IPS display (LG Display LGD0762).

This HP Envy X360 2 in 1 device measures 35x22.5x1.5cm at the back, it is 1cm at the front, it weighs 1782 grams. Going around the outside has a USB3, 3.5mm socket for headphones and an SD socket on the left. The front is clear. The right side has a USB3, HDMI and two USB 'C' sockets. The back is also clear as the Notebook screen rotates through 180 degrees to become a Tablet. The initial startup is 55 minutes including extra updates after startup and BIOS and Firmware updates until you have a fully updated machine.

The HP Envy x360 15 is an affordable midrange laptop with some cool features for creatives, such as a touchscreen and a 2-in-1 flipability, which can turn the laptop into a (very big) tablet. It's not the most powerful, and anyone dealing with heavy rendering jobs or 3D modelling will need something with discrete graphics and more RAM, but this makes for a very attractive option for students and hybrid workers who like the touchscreen functionality.

The HP Envy x360 15 (2023) looks like a great machine on paper. The fold-back hinge is always an appreciated extra, and pairing it with an OLED screen makes it perfectly suited for blasting through your favourite movies and TV shows. As a viable work machine, however, it’s a mixed back. Frequent freezes instil the idea that the i5 and 8GB memory model is just a little under-specced for the workflow you might think you can expect at this price point. Check out our list of the best budget laptops for some pointers. The HP Pavilion x360 14 offers a better all-round computing experience at a premium, with the Asus Vivobook 16 serving as a better work-oriented machine in the same mid-range price bracket. If Windows isn’t a necessity, Chromebooks like the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 or Acer Spin 513 could be worth the look instead.

HP Envy x360 review: Is the world's first 'IMAX' laptop worth it?

This may be a first-generation IMAX display, but it is certainly not the first time HP has released an Envy laptop. I’m saying this because it has certain traits of a first-gen laptops that can be hopefully improved in the next generation. For starters, this gets the IMAX badge, but only with an FHD-resolution display. There’s no high refresh rate option either, and the GPU is literally from last year. However, at this price, you’re getting a good display for day-to-day work and movie watching. You can enjoy IMAX-enhanced movies on this screen, and also get a x360 convertible machine for more creative and productive use cases. So, all in all, I think I can wrap this HP Envy x360 IMAX review by saying that this laptop doesn’t really do justice to the IMAX badging, but is an otherwise good machine for the price.

The HP Envy x360 stands as a solid notebook that boasts an appealing appearance, dependable performance, and the added versatility of a tablet. Compared to the Apple MacBook Air 13 and Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360, its IMAX Enhanced certified display outshines in performance, particularly for watching movies and shows. However, for editing, a few display settings adjustments might be necessary to achieve desired colour accuracy. The laptop also surpasses older HP notebooks under Rs 1 lakh I've tested in terms of battery life, typing experience, and speaker output. Whether it is a better buy over the highly-rated MacBook Air, I'd say yes, but that depends a lot on your priority. If you're not fully consumed in the Apple ecosystem, the HP Envy x360 presents itself as a worthy choice.
