Is it worth it? Put it this way. If you never bought one, you wouldn’t miss it. But buy it and you’ll soon wonder how you lived without it.

The iPad 3G has a reasonable touchscreen keyboard, certainly one that's much easier to use than that on the iPhone, for all but the shortest messages, and the ability to remain in e-mail and Twitter contact, wherever you are, is, for some, a major consideration. If you bought a WiFi-only iPad and, in six months' time, someone offered you 3G functionality for an extra £100, the chances are you'd jump at it. Best to make that choice now, while the deal is still on the table.

I will start by saying that I've never been much of an Apple guy. Most of my background lies within PC-based platforms, namely Windows. However given my experiences as a dev/sysadmin for NBF and other projects, I've obtained knowlege of linux systems. I see most of Apple's products as proprietary Linux distributions with pre-packaged hardware. In fact, everything Apple has to offer seems to be sold as a unit and the iPad is no different.

Want a giant iPhone that can't make calls? Happy to buy the first version of something before the manufacturer gets it quite right? You're going to love the iPad. Looking for a funky alternative to a low-cost laptop for a bit of e-mail, web surfing and a dash of WP? That initial attraction will quickly turn to bitterness and recriminations as you slowly uncover your new partner's bad habits. On the fence? Stay there until the kinks are sorted and Apple lowers the drawbridge a little so the iPad can get acquainted with the outside world a little more.

Despite all these issues, we enjoyed our time with the joojoo. As with the iPad, it turns browsing the internet into a more enjoyable, social affair than with a netbook or laptop, and it does have its advantages, Flash and multitasking, principally. But if we're honest, it's never going to rival Apple's iPad. It may be cheaper, have a larger, wider screen and that all-important Flash support, but crucially, it doesn't come close to the quality and ease of use of Apple's groundbreaking tablet. If you're willing to pay this much, save up the extra for an iPad, or just wait for the throng of cheap slates that are looming into view.

Our review of Apple's iPad:an oversized iPhone or the future of personal computing? The iPad is the first in a series of products that could transform the industry, with Dell and others producing their own rivals. It can't match a laptop with a full-blown OS, but there's an argument for the iPad as a secondary device to go with a desktop PC.

So should you get the iPad? Well it really depends on what you want to do with it. On the one hand, if you're looking for a netbook replacement, you're definitely not going to find it here - while the iPad can do a bit of lightweight word processing and presentations, the many drawbacks mean that you're probably not going to be able to get rid of your notebook altogether. On the other hand, if you're looking for an e-book reader and something to use when travelling to read documents, news and to surf, then the iPad is actually an ideal device thanks to the long battery life, great screen and the sheer number of news sites with support for the iPad. As for gaming, there's potential there, although right now I don't see any games which really show off the potential of multitouch and the large screen.

Chances are you've already made up your mind whether or not to get one, so if you have your choice is just whether to get an iPad 3G or just the iPad Wi-Fi. Whichever iPad you choose, it does many things very well. There's no doubting it: the iPad 3G is a great device and it certainly lays down the gauntlet for tablet competitors. It's expensive – and through monthly costs far, far more so than the iPad Wi-Fi. We do think the iPad Wi-Fi is a more compelling option. Especially when you consider that despite the lack of 3G in that model, you can still get online using other means, such as 3's MiFi.

The iPad has had a strange effect on my life. The first month as a tablet owner is a lot like being a new parent. There are soaring highs, as well as long periods of frustration and crashing lows. Apple’s new baby was a joy to welcome into my life, but it has also ushered in its own share of headaches and annoyances. What the iPad does, it does well, but there's an overwhelming sense that Apple's tablet has yet to reach its true potential.

Like any 1.0 product, the iPad has its rough edges, the worst being the erratic Wi-Fi reception. However, the basic design is spot on. It’s small enough to be portable and comfortable to use, yet large enough to work really well for tasks such as web browsing, reading books and playing video. The battery life is outstanding and the A4 processor seems to have power to spare.

The iPad offers a new way of viewing data for businesses. The style isn't just skin deep, and a number of applications do their bit to sell the usability of the device. The problem lies in the restrictive nature of the design and application ecosystem. The iPad represents a significant corporate outlay on a device which doesn't replace anything, and ties it into Apple's view of the world. For that reason, many will be out.

There are two conclusions to be made about the Apple iPad. As a product you could buy, it's a tempting but ultimately unconvincing device. Anyone with a particular penchant for Apple, or enough money to burn and a love of shiny tech, are likely to buy into it. Unlike the iPhone, however, it doesn't traverse the boundary between early adopters and the mass market. Most people probably wouldn't know what to do with it. What it does do is demonstrate the potential of the tablet as a segment. In time, with a few software updates, tweaks to the hardware and a more compelling library of content to draw on, it could well deliver on the hype it currently receives. It'll also spur on competitors to compete with it, which can only be a good thing.

If the Apple iPad is an iPod touch on steroids, then the Apple iPad 3G is very nearly a pumped-up iPhone. It’s got the iPhone’s wickedly fast, smart GPS, a built-in 3G data connection that hands over smoothly with Wi-Fi and day-long battery life. You can even – with a bit of Skype fiddling – make and receive phone calls.

This is an impressive debut for an ambitious new product direction for Apple. The iPad is a wholly new product, yet one that will be familiar to anyone who’s ever used an iPhone or iPod touch. It’s a futuristic gadget the likes of which we’ve never seen before, yet also a ‘version one’ that may soon be viewed with the same nostalgic amusement we have for the chunky original iPod. Yet today’s iPad is already, undeniably and enthusiastically a great product. It’s fantastic inside and out, blending cutting-edge hardware and innovative software into a single, unified whole. If you love the latest whizzy gadget, you’ll find nothing whizzier. If you want a web-connected device that fits in the space between phone and PC, you’ll find the iPad a joy. Devices like this change the way we view technology, and holding the iPad feels like you’re holding the future.

The Apple iPad has been out for about a month and I have been a user of a 16GB Wi-Fi model since day one. It has quickly become a near daily addition to my workflow as I utilize it for taking notes throughout the home and office, watching TV via the SlingPlayer application (among others), checking email away from the desktop and even to waste time with a quick round of Plants versus Zombies. I would not call it critical to the success of PC Perspective yet, but I can see it reaching that point with a few changes.

The iPad is a new tablet-style computer from Apple – it is operated using its touch-sensitive screen. Unlike some similar computers there's no physical keyboard on the iPad. The Apple iPad is a great way to blow one's bonus -- especially for gadget lovers, Web addicts and people who want to get online in the simplest way possible. Admittedly, it's pretty much pointless, but it offers the same irresistibly slick mix of media, games, the Web and apps as the iPhone -- it's just bigger. We think it's the first tablet that's worth your hard-earned dosh. But, if the iPad doesn't tickle your fancy and you want more flexibility and features, there are plenty of alternatives just around the corner.

The iPad may not be as 'magical' as Apple would have you believe, but it remains a very entertaining device and is a nice look into the future of media consumption. The iPad isn't magical, as much as Apple wants you to believe this is the case. It is, however, a very entertaining device that’s currently being held back by a lack of content and a number of missing features. The iPad will only get better and will ultimately succeed off the back of Apple's existing application and content ecosystem.

Are we still as enamoured with the Apple iPad following our first look? We review Apple's latest device to find out. The iPad is a great tool if you only need the capabilities of an iPhone with a large screen. Sure, email and the browser excel here, but to make it perfect for everything else, it needs much better security and you’ll have to purchase the extra dock and keyboard to make working on the move viable.

The iPad is still totally desirable. The screen is lush and detailed, and the new full-fat iPad apps absolutely rock. Wi-Fi browsing moves at a million miles per hour; and when sat next to a rival like the Archos 9 PCtablet running Windows 7, the French competitor becomes a sputtering Virgin F1 racer to Apple’s turbocharged Ferrari.

We've used it all over the house and the office. As a desk companion it's great, on the sofa it is also good as long as you acknowledge that you are using what amounts to a laptop. It's not got the same stigma, but it's not something you can sneakily look at while Mrs Pocket-lint isn't looking. Whilst I am happy to check emails and tweet from the toilet on the iPhone, I wasn't convinced about taking the iPad with me.

After months of build-up, we finally have an Apple iPad in our hands. But is this really going to create a new category of portable between a smartphone and a laptop, or is it a beautiful piece of hardware that will soon be doubling up as a fancy tea tray? It's no laptop replacement, but there is an argument for it as a secondary device. If you can live with the flaws, you'll find a beautiful gadget that manages to be that rare thing: a piece of technology that's fun.

What the iPad does do, it does extremely well. Web browsing is extremely quick (along with everything else), it's enjoyable to use, the battery life (10 hours or so) is fantastic and it can definitely go where even some netbooks cannot. Unfortunately, it's pretty much a coffee tablet/travel companion right now, but as the App Store expands and (hopefully) as iPhone OS 4.0 comes to light, the iPad's utility will likely increase.

Broadly, however, Apple has succeeded. Steve Jobs and Jonny Ive’s vision has triumphed over those who doubted the iPad would be more than a jumped up iPod touch. Instead, the iPad has proved itself to be a true portable companion, changing the way we use the web, ushering in a new generation of apps, and altering the way we think about entertainment on the move.

As a piece of hardware, the iPad generally does its job well. We could always use more processing power, which is made more evident by the larger screen and thus higher user demands on the system (Intel did have a point with restricting Atom's usage to smaller screen devices only). The lack of any integrated camera is bothersome but I doubt at this point we'd have a great video chat application to use given the current state of the iPad app union.

The Apple iPad ushers in the era of tablet computing, with a slate-style handheld that looks nothing like a typical computer. In fact, the iPad is more reminiscent of an oversize iPhone than a laptop. But because the iPad's screen is three times larger than that of the iPhone/iPod Touch, you'll be tempted to use the iPad for activities you wouldn't consider doing with an iPhone. Apple looks set to shake up casual computing with a tablet that offers clever design and ease of use. But that streamlined approach may also be the iPad's weakness.

It’s the best portable Web surfing device. The initial Wi-Fi version sort of limits where you can use it, though. You can wait for the 3G version and its $15-per-month AT&T 3G service, or get a MiFi from Sprint or Verizon (which also can be used with your laptop). Slip the MiFi in a pocket or backpack and you become a walking hotspot. We’ve been using Sprint’s, and it works perfectly.

For everyone, then? No, of course not, but that’s a pretty unrealistic criteria for success. Ask, instead, whether Apple have succeeded in delivering the elusive middle device, the thing that slots into the tricky niche between smartphone and notebook. Remember, too, that such a niche isn’t necessarily so small as to accommodate only one product – this isn’t a case of “the iPad way or the highway” – but more of a satisfying one core criteria: do you choose to pick it up and put it in your bag when you go out, do you choose to carry it from room to room with you around the house?

Overall the iPad 3 is a decent upgrade from the iPad 2 in a number of key areas. The retina quality display is the most impressive and there’s a faster processor and better cameras. 4G connectivity is handy if you want that feature. All this for roughly the same price refurbished makes this a no brainer.

That the Nexus 10 is only £10 more than the iPad 2 is, on the face of it, outrageously good value. The Nexus is brand new, has an unsurpassed display, and offers the best all-round performance of any tablet around. The iPad 2 remains on sale to give Apple fans a lower-priced alternative to the full-specced iPad. But there are reasons for this situation. The Nexus 10 is heavily subsidised by Google as a means of getting people to use Android and - critically - buy apps and media from Google Play. Were Samsung to make and sell it on its own terms its likely the price would be nearer that of the Galaxy Note 10.1 - nearly twice as much. That doesn't stop it being a good deal of course. That said the iPad 2 remains a good deal. The combination of Nexus 10 and Android 4.2 alone offer a similarly high quality experience as Apple's iPad. So for those who just have to have Apple tech, but cannot afford the iPad 4, the iPad 2 is a decent point of entry.

Google's Nexus 7 and Apple's iPad are very different tablets but compete in the same market. The price is the key difference between the two and could give Android a significant boost.

If you’re buying a tablet because you’re looking for nifty software and want to keep your costs down, you’re still better off with iPad 2. But the Android platform has its advantages, also, and the Transformer Pad TF300 remains the best value choice today—especially if you opt for the 32GB version at $400. Not only will you get a lot of bang for your buck at that price, but the Transformer Pad’s Tegra 3-optimized graphics are capable of some impressive tricks over the iPad 2, if the handful of games optimized for the platform appeal to you.

As we’ve seen in previous iPad battery tests, the third-generation iPad, with its brighter, higher resolution screen and quad-core graphics, was only able to last 5 hours and 40 minutes when playing the same movie with the same, full brightness, settings.

The iPad 3 is a solid device that outperforms it predecessor in almost all areas except battery life. We were particularly impressed with the Retina display and high-speed mobile internet as well as the improved camera. Users wanting the best iOS tablet need not look any further.

While the display and processor improvements on the new iPad are immediately noticeable, we'd still advise iPad 2 owners to hold off on an upgrade until a killer feature is added to the next tablet model.

The Transformer Prime triumphs over the iPad 2 in almost all areas, but the Apple device is still an excellent tablet in its own right. Business users may still be tempted by the Apple ecosystem, which is embraced by IT admins. Android is still viewed with caution when it comes to security, but the Prime is a jack-of-all trades in terms of usability. The ability to use the device as a tablet or netbook is something that proves hugely valuable and its multimedia capabilities are unmatched by Apple at this time.

Although it's technically a draw, the MacBook Air wins out in key areas of performance, interface and connectivity. The laptop is definitely the better option for productivity on the move, and can be used in an office because it has excellent specifications. Those who just want to browse the internet on the move would be better suited to the iPad 2. We recommend buying a Wi-Fi-only iPad 2 and using the extra money to invest in a mobile phone contract with a generous data allowance. The tablet can be tethered to the smartphone when Wi-Fi is not available, and this will save on having to pay two separate contracts. Given the choice, V3 definitely opts for the laptop over the tablet, as it is so much more useful and is definitely worth the extra investment. WINNER- MacBook Air.

Overall, though, the iPad 2 experience is overwhelmingly positive. We wish the cameras were better, and that Apple would open up its closed system just a bit; but in all it’s a resounding success in a market where Apple’s every competitor has so far fallen short of greatness. If you’re in the market for a tablet, you’d be mad not to put the iPad 2 at the top of your list.

The new iPad 2 is lighter, faster, slimmer and a lot more feature-laden than the original iPad. This is not merely a midterm upgrade designed to bridge the original iPad with the future iPad 3 – this is a significant upgrade to the iPad and worthwhile in its own right. The iPad 2 will maintain Apple’s huge lead in the tablet market.

The iPad 2 is a wonderful device that’s easy to use, fun, and runs some excellent applications—a good number which are business related. It’s not versatile enough to replace your laptop, and it certainly can’t match a Windows 7 tablet for power, but the iPad 2 is a different type of product. If you can find a need for it in your business, it could be a good asset.

So my recommendation is, if you are already hooked into the Apple economy and iTunes then the iPad 2 will fit right in with the rest of your stuff. However, if you have been resisting the temptation to jump in, then you may want to wait a little longer. The Android platform is much more open and flexible, and with a pluthera of Android tablets on the horizon, prices will be dropping. As for me I will hang onto this tablet for a while so I can compare it against some new Android tablets, but in the end I will sell it because it is not a fit for me.

Deservedly, Apple owns this market right now, and it knows it. The price drop is the icing on the competition-killing cake, leaving iPad 2 as statement of the tablet art today. If we had to name a second-place contender, the only device nearing the slickness of operation and natural hardware/software integration is – last year’s iPad. Anyone wishing to explore effortless computing is advised to try Apple's iPad 2.

Without the majority of the tablet competition yet available it's hard to definitively call the iPad 2 the best of this generation. However, it's here, it's good and it's well priced, all of which gives the competition even more to live up to when they finally arrive. The iPad 2 is still just a toy - we can't believe that anyone could need an iPad - but that's okay; if you can afford a shiny expensive extravagance, why not buy the best available?

Apple's iPad 2 offers significantly upgraded hardware compared with the original iPad, as well as better performance, both in general and graphics processing, and also an improved form factor. In early 2010, Apple rewrote, or one could argue, revivified, the tablet-computer market with the original iPad. Apple set out to reinvent the tablet user experience and judging by the overwhelming success of the iPad, I would say they have succeeded. As incredible as today's tablets are, the truth is that we are only at the infancy of tablet computing. So where does the form factor go from here? Aside from the obvious answers of thinner, lighter and more powerful, it's anyone's guess really. We will continue to see various display sizes and connectivity options. If 3D display technology really takes off in the coming years, we could possibly see that implemented into future tablets. On the business side of things, I think something like Microsoft's Courier, a failed dual screen tablet prototype, could really spice things up. And of course, let's not forget the software, the future is all about the software.

In summary, the iPad 2 is most impressive from an engineering standpoint. Slashing thickness and weight, adding a dual core processor, while still maintaining 10 hours of battery life is a frankly staggering feat. In the way Apple dominates battery life in notebooks, the company continues this tradition with tablets. iOS offers a sizable library of apps customized for the iPad, not simply scaled apps to fit the larger display.

For all the negatives, for now we think the iPad 2 is still the best tablet around. As for which iPad 2 you should buy, it really depends on your needs. For most people, we’d recommend at least the 32-GB model ($600), which should come in handy if you plan to use the iPad for gaming, watching video or creating media. If you already own a smartphone with tethering or hotspot options (which all iPhones have now), you won’t need to plunk down extra money on an iPad 2 with 3G, so go with a Wi-Fi-only model. Those who plan to use lightweight applications — reading, web surfing and e-mail — will be fine with the 16-GB base model for $500.

Apple has built the iPad 2 by making everything that was good about the first iPad, better. If it wasn’t for the poor optics quality, I would say that this is a perfect product upgrade. Anyhow, in the current tablet context, it’s fair to say that iPad 2 is an “excellent” product. As long as you understand what it can -and cannot- do, you should be happy to own one.

Admittedly, the iPad 2 is more of an evolutionary step for Apple, akin to the jump from iPhone 3 to 3GS. If you already own an iPad then you’re not missing out too much by waiting for the next iteration before you upgrade. If you held off from buying over the last 12 months, then the iPad 2 is a brilliant reward for your patience. Get out and buy it. It's taken nearly a year since the launch of the first iPad for any manufacturers to come close to creating a tablet that can rival it. Even then, those that look promising like the Motorola Xoom run such an early OS (in Android 3.0) it will be a while before they can rival the iPad in terms of apps. With the Blackberry Playbook, HTC Flyer, LG Optimus Pad and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 all to come, the tablet market looks really exciting over the next few months. And with its mind-blowing new build, new cameras and improvements in the engine room, coupled with the unmatched App Store/iTunes/iOS ecosystem the next-gen iPad is clearly the tablet to beat.

Should you dump your old iPad and get an Apple iPad 2? If you’re happy with your current iPad, there’s no reason to dump it just because there’s a shinier, newer one. If you’ve invested in iPad accessories such as a dock or case, you probably won’t be able to use them with the new iPad. Of course, if there’s someone in your family who has been clamouring for an iPad, now might be the time to buy an iPad 2 and hand down the old model to them. If you’ve become a major user of FaceTime or other video-chat apps, upgrading to an iPad 2 makes more sense, thanks to the cameras. People who want to bestow an iPad on an older friend or relative who is a bit reluctant to use technology can now add video chat to the mix of features that make the iPad a compelling device. Anyone who gives demonstrations of iPad apps will want to get an iPad 2 immediately just for the video-mirroring feature.

For everyone else, though, Apple has put together a superbly capable, class-shaping tablet, which can now legitimately take on not only other slates but lighter ereaders such as Amazon’s Kindle. The iPad 2 benefits from Apple’s cohesive hardware and software development together with the vast third-party developer support of the App Store, consistent and simple to use in equal measure. Apple’s vision of the post-PC world isn’t quite here yet – the iPad 2 still works best with, and at times demands, integration with a “proper” computer – but when it comes to tablets the iPad 2 maintains its position at the vanguard of the market.

An interesting optional accessory is Apple's screen covers which attach to the iPad 2 magnetically and add very little extra weight or thickness. They're designed so that the tablet automatically wakes up and goes to sleep as you flip the cover open and closed. The cover can fold back and act as a stand for use when typing on the iPad. The iPad 2 is, as we expected, a very slick and promising tablet. It's due to go on sale in the UK on March 25th, and even earlier in the US on March 11th putting pressure on rival tablet manufacturers to launch their own competing products.

Each tablet wins the same number of categories, so choosing which to buy really depends on what you're looking to use it for. While it's worth pointing out that the £600 Infinity and £559 iPad are much closer in price for their respective 64GB versions, Apple gives the option to buy a cheaper model with less storage so we took that into account for our head to head.

For those looking for a premier, top end tablet experience, Apple's iPad remains the best choice, featuring the best screen on market and a streamlined operating system that allows it to match the performance of similar devices packing more powerful components. This means that while we would recommend the iPad over the Nexus 7 to users with cash to burn looking for a top end tablet experience, we'd equally recommend the Nexus 7 over the iPad to anyone shopping on a budget or casual tablet users looking for basic media and web browsing services.

Some have called the iPad 3 an incremental upgrade. I disagree. As I think this comparison shows, the new iPad is substantially better than the next-best competitor. When judged relative to the competition the iPad 3 is the best product Apple makes and among the best consumer electronics products available today. Everyone else is still trying to catch up.

The Apple iPad is the standard by which all other tablets are judged. The iPad 3 does nothing to change that. The iPad 2 was the best tablet you could buy, so it’s little surprise that the iPad 3 has replaced it in that role. The new iPad is the best tablet money can buy and its release has transformed the gap between it and the competition into a canyon. Our praise can’t be much clearer than that, and the new iPad is worth every word of it.

Apple New iPad 3 Wi-Fi + 4G The iPad remains my favourite tablet. I prefer the screen size and aspect ratio; it delivers the right performance and functionality for what I want a fondleslab to do; USB – without the need for an adapter – would be nice, but otherwise it has the connectivity I need; third-party apps have got me over the walled garden without jailbreaking; the battery life is great. Android buffs and Apple biters won't care anyway. But the iPad 3 is a good tablet, and its screen sets a higher bar for Apple's rivals to try and leap over.

Priced identical to the iPad 2, the new iPad continues to provide the best experience in a tablet form factor. If you are looking to jump on the tablet-bandwagon, the new iPad should certainly be on top of your list. For those of you who want to upgrade, the new iPad is better than any Android tablet that I have reviewed in the last year as well as a substantial improvement over the original iPad. About the only segment of people that I might not recommend the new iPad to is one that owns the iPad 2. Amongst them, it will mostly be the tech savvy that would want the new display and GPU and I say that because I belong to this exact group. However, my wife is fairly happy with her iPad 2 and not the least bit interested in getting the new one.

That's not to say that there aren't some great Android tablets available right now. Asus's Transformer Prime would be our next choice, but it's a tough sell given the new iPad's Retina display and the sheer size of Apple's app ecosystem.

That ecosystem is the new iPad’s biggest draw. The hardware feels, for the most part, like it’s settled; I’d expect Apple to tweak it in future iterations, yes, but the company has a tendency to polish its designs and then avoid change for its own sake. That’s certainly been the case in Apple’s computing lines, and the iPad looks to be following the same route. I’d like to see Google – and others, for that matter; Windows 8 certainly has its points of interest, particularly with ARM support for more frugal, multimedia-centric models – mount a more compelling offense, if only because I like Android and I think the competition is good for the end consumer, but there’s no doubting that, for a great proportion, the new iPad ticks most of the boxes. Upgrading from my first-gen iPad is a no-brainer; the problem for Google and others is that opting for an iPad is likely to remain a no-brainer for many new tableteers, yet to be convinced with what the rest of the market can deliver.

Extra horsepower from the revised quad-core graphics processor has been funnelled into maintaining the iPad 2’s top-notch graphics performance when tasked with driving four times as many pixels. An improved rear camera is not universally essential, and nor is an uprated modem for next-gen cellular services that are unavailable in most parts of the world. But just a short time using the iPad with its entrancing Retina display gives ample reason alone to consider an upgrade, even if you have an iPad 2. Once you’ve tried a third-gen iPad, iPad 2’s text looks plain blurry. For a newcoming tablet buyer, Apple has just handed you, at an unassailable price, the device that unequivocally retains the iPad at the zenith of tablet computing.

The Retina Display was the most complex and difficult bit of engineering, and yet that seems to be working fine. Visual creatures that we are, people are downright entranced by the screen. I have to add my voice to it. Even with ClearType on, my desktop screen looks downright chunky by comparison. It's certainly a beautiful screen, and the device is very fast and responsive. Hopefully Apple learned its lesson from Antennae-gate over how to handle a PR problem. They don't have the Reality Distortion Field to rely on any more.

Although LTE of little use in the UK for now, the Retina display still makes the new iPad a highly desirable tablet, though it may a short while for apps and web sites to fully exploit it. The fact that prices are the same as the old model is impressive too, although the cheapest 16GB model may not have enough capacity for heavy tablet users.

Apple could be accused of delivering more of the same with the new iPad. More pixels, more speed, better camera. And that's exactly why it's our favorite tablet. This sequel builds on everything we loved about the iPad 2. Is it worth the upgrade? For owners of the original iPad, definitely. iPad 2 owners will need to weigh the benefits of the Retina display and additional graphics oomph versus the expense. Just keep in mind that you'll likely want to get a higher capacity than 16GB if you plan on downloading a lot of games or 1080p video.

If you don’t already own an iPad or an Android tablet then the new iPad could be the one that finally breaks down your resistance. It certainly blows away the Android competition and should ensure that the iPad continues to dominate the tablet category – especially with the iPad 2 still on sale at a reduced price. Existing owners of the iPad 2 are faced with a trickier decision. The new display is lovely, but is perhaps more of a luxury than a must-have. But you’ll want it all the same, and all that bottled-up techno-lust will keep the iPad at the head of the pack for another year.

Although the extra weight is a disappointment, in the scheme of things it doesn't hurt the new iPad's ascent to the throne. Apple remains firmly ahead in terms of an app ecosystem, with more than 200,000 apps deemed "iPad" apps. The new, high-resolution display will pose some challenges to the iOS developer community, but I have no doubt that the community will rise to the occasion quickly, thanks to Apple's insular product strategy.

Steve Jobs would have approved of the new iPad. With its focus on the holistic experience rather than individual boasts around its constituent parts, it’s the epitome of the Post-PC world the Apple founder envisaged. No lag or delay; no frustrating cloud settings or arcane minimum software requirements. Simply pick up, swipe, and you’re immersed in a joined-up ecosystem. Apple doesn’t need another revolution, it has already started one, and the new iPad brings a fresh degree of refinement to a segment in which it is undoubtedly the king.

The new iPad looks and feels almost identical to the Apple iPad 2 at first glance, but it brings a fair bit more to the table, not least the impressive Retina display with that massive screen resolution. The result is pin-sharp images and huge improvements in video playback from the Apple iPad 2.

Overall the new iPad is a decent upgrade from the iPad 2 in a number of key areas. The retina quality display is the most impressive and there’s a faster processor and better cameras. 4G connectivity is a good upgrade but irrelevant for UK users at the moment. Apple has managed all this and stuck to the same price points as the iPad 2 and maintained the 10 hour battery life.

At least Apple isn't charging extra for the new machine – it matches last year’s pricing, starting at £399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model, rising to £659 for the 64GB 3G/4G version. Apple is taking orders now, and the new kit will arrive on 16 March.

“It’s Resolutionary” Apple says of the new iPad, and we have to agree. We’ve just grabbed some hands-on time with the new Retina Display iOS 5.1 tablet, and the difference from the iPad 2 – which, remember, stays on sale alongside it – is vast. The pixels in the 2048 x 1536 display are, at regular arm’s length, completely indistinguishable: it’s only when you get up close that you can make them out.

Last but not least there’s the question of value, where the iPad 3 continues to impress because it won’t cost a penny more than the iPad 2 did at launch. That means the 16GB Wi-Fi model can be yours for as little as £399, which is superb value for the amount of tech the iPad 3 packs into its casing no matter how you look at it. Do keep in mind though that, unlike on an Android tablet, memory is not expandable, so you’re stuck with what you buy. Unfortunately, Apple charges a rather hefty £479 for the 32GB Wi-Fi model and it goes up from there, bringing it more in line with the kind of pricing we were expecting for Apple’s newest tablet. The new iPad/iPad 3 will be available in most countries on the 16th of March.

If you're on the iPad 3 or earlier, the iPad Air is a highly appealing buy, and a bit of a bargain, we'd say. But paying the same price all over again a year (or less) after shelling out for the iPad 4 may be less clear-cut, unless you're flush with cash. Do you find your arm aching after using your iPad 4? If you find this annoying, the iPad Air is the answer to your prayers. But for us - and, we'd guess, for most users - arm ache is only an occasional annoyance, and not really worth spending upwards of 400 quid all over again.

To sum up our review, we think Apple's iPad 4 with Retina display is a superb tablet that won't let you down, with a fast processor and superb build quality. The last nine months have seen apps and games grow ever more demanding, putting the iPad 4's A6X processor in a still stronger position, and this is clearly the most future-proofed of Apple's iPad offerings. iPad 3 owners, nevertheless, may not wish to upgrade unless they're attracted by 4G's potential for faster mobile web access - 4G will get better, but for now remains expensive and limited in its coverage. Strongly consider the ultra-portable iPad mini, which is slower and can't match the sparkling display but is cheaper and will do the job for most users.

It perhaps will come as little surprise that the iPad Air has won in a head-to-head review over its predecessor, the iPad 4, but is it worth the upgrade? We think so. While there's not that much in the way of new specs beyond the upgrade to Apple's 64-bit A7 chip and the firm's iOS 7 operating system, the iPad Air is so much more comfortable to use due to its slim profile and low weight.

Summing up the battle of the flagship tablets, the Apple iPad 4 manages to win out by triumphing in three out of the six categories over its rivals. Apple's tablet trumped the Surface Pro and Nexus 10 as our favourite for design and display, and proving the best out of the bunch for battery life. Despite winning half the categories, the Apple iPad 4 failed to win the major battles of performance and software, losing out to the Surface Pro due to its ability to run the full version of Windows 8. However, we felt Microsoft's tablet failed to deliver on too many occasions, such as in design and display to warrant a win over Apple's high-class device.

The fourth-gen iPad looks no different from the iPad 3 (and even iPad 2) with Apple sticking to the same rectangular shape with rounded corners and chamfered edges. There's no change in dimensions so it's 186 x 241 x 9.4mm and it weighs 652g (662g for the cellular model). Of course if you don't like the size of the iPad, there's always the iPad mini as a smaller option.

After the budget friendly price of the Google Nexus 7, it's no surprise that the Nexus 10 is cheaper than the iPad. The Nexus 10 starts at £319 for the 16GB model while the equivalent iPad costs £80 more at £399. The price gap is slightly bigger for the 32GB models – a gap of £90 with the Nexus 10 at £389 and the iPad at £479.

The iPad 4 is definitely the best full-size iPad yet, but if you have a third-gen model, you may feel that six months is too soon to upgrade. Perhaps Apple thought the same, so it delivered a gentle rather than a killer upgrade, though the speed improvement over the last model is evident.

Despite very stiff competition from its new rivals, the Apple iPad retains its crown as top 10in tablet, boasting a compelling complete ecosystem offering, a decent - albeit not on a par with the Nexus 10's - screen, fast performance and excellent battery life. However, we should point out that for those looking for a full-on laptop replacement, the Surface RT is currently the only valid option, featuring support for Microsoft's email and a full version of Office 2013. The only downside of this is that people wanting to use the Surface in this way will have to buy its Touch Cover keyboard add-on, which adds an extra £80 to the device's cost.

We can’t say that the fourth-generation iPad is an entirely positive upgrade, then. It’s massively quick, and remains our A-List tablet due to its sumptuous screen, the general quality of its hardware and the fantastic selection of tablet-specific apps and games in the App Store. However, that reduced battery life does put a dent in its overall appeal.

It really is difficult to say one of these tablets is "the tablet you should buy" as the needs of each person are completely different. We can say - in very loose terms - that if you're looking to buy a tablet to be used alongside your laptop, then the iPad 4 is probably the more polished of the two. However if you want a tablet that you can put in your bag and use instead of your laptop, then you'd have more of a fighting chance with the Surface (and its Touch Cover) in your arsenal. On a side note it's worth mentioning again (in case you missed it) the iPad 4's app store wipes the floor with the Surface's, so if it's apps you're after, then we suggest you go for the iPad 4 all day long, however, if the Surface gets its apps in order then it has the potential to be huge and a real game changer.

It’s daft to say Apple’s fourth-generation iPad is its best yet - how could it not be? If you're sure you want an iPad, fanboy or not, it's the one to go for. Still, there’s no need at all to upgrade if you have an iPad 3, of course - wait for the 5, at least. I wouldn’t go from an iPad 2 if it wasn’t for the retina display, though the new model’s performance hike is welcome. Having to cope with a new connector is less so, but new buyers won’t be overly inconvenienced, though they may baulk at the price.

The latest challenger to Apple's iPad has arrived in the form of Google's Nexus 10, made by Samsung. Unlike the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 is a direct competitor with the iPad and deserves one of our comparison reviews. We haven't got our hands on the Nexus 10 so this review is based on the specifications.

The third-generation iPad arguably didn’t need refreshing; in fact, if Apple hadn’t opted to change to Lightning, it could realistically have held off changing its largest tablet until early 2013, as per its typical yearly refresh cycle. That makes for a reasonably straightforward upgrade decision if you’re a 3rd-gen iPad owner. Unless you’re desperate for Lightning – perhaps you’ve also got an iPhone 5, and want to use all the same accessories rather than buy the adapter dongle – then we’re yet to see apps that really demand the potent A6X chipset.

Wciąż jednak skutkuje to znacznym wzrostem ceny w stosunku do poprzednika.

The iPad (10th gen) delivers almost everything you could want in a modern tablet, offering a larger display than its predecessor along with a sleeker design, faster A14 Bionic chip and USB-C charging. But this tablet costs $120 more than its predecessor, and the fact that you're limited to the 1st gen Apple Pencil sucks.

Apple has improved just about every aspect of the entry-level iPad. The revised design is attractive, the screen is very good, the upgraded processor is faster, and the new camera configuration means better photos and more natural video calls. Wireless performance is quicker across the board, the tablet now offers true stereo sound, and Apple's accessories can transform it into a portable workstation. There's no question that the 10th-generation iPad is the best tablet you can get for $349. It does everything a tablet should do and does it well. Apple is mostly competing against its own iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. If you truly value the small form factor, the iPad mini is the way to go, though at three years old it is a bit outdated in terms of specs and performance.

The iPad (10th gen) is a tablet that looks and feels new, and that’s a welcome change over the last few iterations. I appreciate the sleeker design and bigger display, though some may miss the headphone jack from the 9th gen iPad. I also like the Touch ID-enabled power button, repositioned front camera and USB-C charging, as well as the upgraded A14 Bionic chip and 5G connectivity. However, $449 is a lot of money to spend on this tablet. Yes, Apple is keeping the $329 iPad 9th gen around, but it still stings to see a $120 jump from one generation to the next. My bigger issue is with the Apple Pencil situation; it’s just way too awkward to charge this thing, and there’s nowhere to store the stylus when not in use. But the $79 Apple Pencil at least resolves this situation. Do I think the iPad 2022 is worth the splurge over last year’s model? Mostly, as this is a more future-proof tablet.

Should you go for the iPad 10th Generation? Yes and no. Yes, because it features a powerful chipset that breezes through everyday tasks. It also has a chic design that looks classy and is a breath of fresh air with narrow bezels and no home button. The stereo setup is perfect for those movie nights. The battery life is great, and you won't need to worry about plugging it in if you're a light user. No, because the rear camera is decent under perfect conditions, but struggles elsewhere. While the LCD display is the best compared to other LCD tablets in the market, it can't hold a candle against OLED displays. Oh, and viewing it in the Sun can be problematic due to low peak brightness. And if you're someone who loves to multitask, you'll be missing out on the amazing Stage Manager feature as well.

Apple’s 10th Gen iPad is a powerful tablet that excels in its performance, surpassing competitors in productivity-adjacent tasks. It’s perfect for day-to-day use, and even if you plan to lose yourself within the throes of a compelling song or movie, it has a bright, vivid display and powerful speaker system to match. But it’s also expensive, with the addition of the Magic Keyboard Folio, Cellular compatibility and Apple Pencil (plus its adapter) bringing the tablet up to $1,100. While you can purchase the base 64GB model for just $449, its battery life is still an hour shorter than the previous generation, and it ran out of juice the quickest among competitors. Apple should also expand the aesthetic choices for the Magic Keyboard Folio, as the beautiful reflective blue tablet transformed into a boring expanse of plain white while the accessories were attached. If you’re on the hunt for a slightly more affordable but equally fantastic tablet, the OnePlus Pad is a great choice. Otherwise, the 10th Gen iPad will not do you wrong if you’re willing to invest.

Obviously, the elephant in the room with this newest iPad is its price: $449 is not a small ask, especially when compared with the $329 iPad (9th Gen) that Apple still sells, and the fact that you're only getting 64GB of onboard storage. Just my initial batch of apps and services filled up 15GB on my tester. I'm now breaching the 30GB mark after months of data and cache storage. Get the 256GB variant if you can. If you're shopping on a budget, the 2021 iPad should make the most sense. Apple clearly thinks that, too. But I can't help but compare the 10th-gen iPad with the rest of Apple's hierarchy, all of which remain pricier and, in several aspects, are not as good as the vanilla model. In the broader context, here's what I'd suggest buying now:

The iPad 10th gen is a strange proposition. It’s an excellent tablet, with a good screen, strong performance and plenty of really noticeable upgrades over the previous generation iPad. But thanks to a price increase, this no longer feels like a budget iPad for everyone – by keeping the older model around too, Apple seems to agree. If you’re in the UK and want a 256GB iPad, Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil then you’re going to be spending £1067 – more than it costs for the MacBook Air M1. I would also suggest those thinking about this iPad also look at the iPad Air. The 2022 version of this device is available often for around the £570 mark, while the 2020 model has dropped below £500 and is often available at that price. The price jump isn’t as great between generations in the US, with the iPad 10th gen starting at $449 and the previous generation at $329. If you’re happy to pay what Apple is asking then the package here is very good and easy to recommend. This remains better than most of the best Android tablets thanks to the excellent app ecosystem and it’ll likely be supported for years to come with iPadOS updates.

Is the iPad 10 worth it in 2023? Well, I just sold mine, but it might not be why you think. My decision has to do with both the iPad Pro and the iPad Mini 6! I'll explain :) - Here's my iPad 10 long term review!

Some might be tempted to step up to the iPad Air, which costs about S$200 more for the same amount of storage. I think it’s only worth if you are going to use the Apple Pencil often and absolutely need the extra performance. Otherwise, the regular iPad now offers nearly the same experience as an iPad Air for quite a bit less. Remember, the iPad Air’s accessories cost more too. Ultimately, I think this new iPad replaces the iPad Air as the best iPad for most people. It’s thin, light, well-made, has a nice display, decent battery life, proper stereo speakers, and good performance. For most people, this is all the tablet they’d ever need – as long as they don’t intend to use the Apple Pencil often.

The Apple iPad 10th Gen has a lot to offer, including features found on the Pro models, and it does so relatively well. It’s even better when used together with the Apple Magic Keyboard Folio. Whether it’s worth it for you or not is dependent on whether its use case is relevant to you or not as the 9th Gen might be able to do it just as well but at its current state, I wouldn’t recommend artists to buy this with the Apple Pencil to do their work.

It’s debatable whether Apple needed to introduce yet another 10-11in tablet but the iPad 10th generation does a very good job of justifying its existence. It’s nippy enough for everyday apps and productivity tasks, it’s well made, the screen is excellent and the cameras are good, too, particularly the front facing one, which has finally been moved to where it should be for a productivity tablet. It isn’t without its problems. I’m not a fan of the way you need to use an adapter to charge the 1st generation Apple Pencil. Plus, when you boil it down, it isn’t that much more accomplished than the 9th generation model that went before it, and especially not given the £130 premium. It’s not a bad tablet, then – far from it, it’s very good – but if you’re looking for a cheap iPad, I’d recommend you buy a 9th generation model while they’re still available.

So the Apple iPad 10th generation comes with many improvements and is finally in line with its siblings in terms of design, charging capabilities, and more features. While it doesn’t allow you to use the full might of iPadOS 16 with the A14 Bionic chip, it is still a very good all-rounder in the tablet space and is perfect for someone looking for their first iPad. Apple has finally listened to users and made some important improvements. These include a more premium design, a USB type-C port, camera placement, and more. However, the display is not the best we have seen in tablets in this range, and the iPad Pro isn’t much of a gaming device. Furthermore, Apple could have added support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, and the hiked price over last year’s model is something that may discourage a lot of buyers. With everything said and done, the 10th generation iPad does offer a more refined experience and comes with many important enhancements. It is still a pretty good device for things like writing, designing, or sketching. The entry-level still supports only the first-generation Apple Pencil, which works perfectly, just the charging mechanism is inconvenient and will require users to buy an additional type-C to a Lightning port. Answering the question at hand - is the new iPad worth its Rs 44,900 starting price? For those looking for their first iPad, yes, the 10th gen iPad offers a proper iPad experience, despite its shortcomings. However, if you are in the market for a tablet under Rs 50,000, there are better, more powerful options in the Android space.

In isolation, this is an excellent iPad. The design has been improved drastically, the performance remains top-notch, and the enhanced camera performance make it a near-perfect devices for most people. The problem is the positioning of the iPad in the iPad line up. This isn’t a budget iPad anymore and Apple already had an ‘affordable’ premium iPad in the form of the iPad Air. Apple had it easy with the entry-level iPad as it was perhaps the easiest of Apple devices to recommend. Want a tablet? Don’t look beyond the entry-level iPad — something that Apple knows and which is why that model hasn’t been discontinued and is selling at Rs 33,990. The iPad (10th-gen) right now seems to be targeting a very niche audience — those who don’t want a ‘basic’ iPad but are also not ready to get the more expensive iPad Air. Is that audience big enough? I am not so sure about it. Apple has made iterations that make sense and were much-needed but with the 9th-gen iPad still available, it’s hard to see too many people opting for the new 10th-gen iPad. The iPad (10th-gen) is a great tablet and Apple doesn’t have to worry too much about the competition — except the one that comes in-house from the iPad Air and the 9th-gen iPad.

“Is that a laptop replacement?” A friend asked me under an Instagram post showing the new iPad with its keyboard stand and Apple Pencil. I could have replied yes, but that would not have been good enough, especially since I have been using iPads as laptop replacements for years now. This is not a new thing at all. The new iPad with its kickstand keyboard attachment tries to project the entry-level iPad as an iPad replacement for a lot of users, but this is something the iPad Pro has been doing with aplomb for years. But the new iPad is eyeing a different segment altogether and this is the angle I was trying to explore while reviewing the 2022 version of the iPad.

The iPad 10th generation has received many upgrades compared to its 9th generation namesake. With an all-new design, this new iPad looks a lot more modern and premium. Minor, yet, welcomed changes such as a USB Type-C port and the landscape front camera contribute to offering a more convenient user experience. There are incremental upgrades to the display size and performance unit too, making the new iPad a more powerful device. However, Apple has also priced it considerably higher at Rs. 44,900 for the base 64GB model. Our top-spec model with 256GB of storage and cellular costs quite a bit more. If you add the Magic Keyboard Folio, this pushes the price over Rs. 1,00,000. Should you buy the iPad 10th generation as a laptop replacement? Unless you want a portable, lightweight machine with a touch display that supports the Apple Pencil, we can suggest getting the base model. It's a good option for those who want an iPad that looks like the Air, but maybe don't want to spend so much. The 256GB variant of the iPad 10th generation is a tough sell since for that price, you can get the base model of the iPad Air (M1) which has the M1 SoC and supports the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. While the iPad 10th generation is a solid offering, its pricing in India makes it less appealing. The iPad Air (M1) can be found online for as low as Rs. 53,000 and if you can stretch your budget, it makes sense getting it over this iPad. There's also the iPad mini 2021 (Review) which is a compact and powerful tablet that looks similar to the new iPad, but with a smaller screen and a higher price tag.

The iPad 10th Generation is a mega upgrade over the antique iPad 9th Gen model – its new design coupled to a better display and faster overall performance make a good case for this new kid on the block. However, at its starting price of Rs. 44,900, the iPad 10th Gen just as a tablet is too pricey for what it offers, especially for a device that is a culmination of stuff from the old parts bin. Apple hasn't done enough to justify the higher price. The display could have been much better, and so could the chipset (the A14 is good but the A15 would make better sense in 2022). Above all that, Apple persuades you to buy its new Magic Keyboard Folio in order to make it a proper laptop replacement. Adding a Rs. 25,000 accessory to the base iPad 10 puts it almost on par with several Core i5 Windows laptops, and doing the same on a 256GB model pushes it to the MacBook Air category. Even if you want an exorbitantly priced iPad, the iPad Pro M2 makes more sense, and a cheaper Bluetooth keyboard would do the trick instead of the Magic Keyboard accessory. Additionally, the weird case of the 1st Gen Apple Pencil and a new Lightning to USB-C dongle makes it all…aargh! Why buy the iPad 10th Generation then, especially when the 9th Gen iPad is selling at Rs. 30000? Any sane mind wouldn't. That older iPad may look old but it does all the same iPad things at a much lower price. Yes, the new iPad 10th Gen is a big upgrade over its predecessor but the higher price tag makes it difficult to justify, even for an iPad fan. I would rather spend more and get the iPad Air for its M1 chip and a much better display. Maybe when Apple kills the 9th Gen iPad, this iPad 10th Gen becomes the de-facto choice for budget iPad shoppers. But even then, Apple just made it easy for tablet shoppers to look at what Samsung has to offer.

Avid Apple users will find the iPad 10th-gen a rather compatible product that fits into their lifestyle like a snug glove. It’s got what you need and want in a MacBook and an iPhone to get your job done no matter where you are in the world. It’s lightweight and slim design makes it an easy companion too. Apple still has ways to go to completely remove the need for a laptop, but the 10th-gen is a close one that is heading towards the right decision.

In some ways, the iPad 10th Generation feels like a major overhaul, and in others, it feels like a simple refinement. The new design certainly makes this feel like a generational shift as we wave goodbye to the home button and Lightning connector; however, the minor (yet still appreciated) upgrades to picture and sound aren’t indicative of a next-generation product. We commended the iPad that came before it thanks to its already winning performance, commenting that a design update was overdue. Now with an even better AV experience packed into a slick new design, the standard iPad has its time to shine again and is easier than ever to recommend – if you can stretch to its elevated price tag.

The entry-level iPad has long been a staple for Apple, offering respectable performance at an affordable price. Apple has wholly revamped the base iPad for 2022 with a new design, upgraded specs, and several surprise changes. While the many external and internal upgrades for the 10th-generation iPad (starting at $449) are overdue and appreciated, a $120 jump in price diminishes the tablet's easy-to-recommend appeal to some degree. The fact remains, however, that it's an incredibly capable slate and a better choice than most other models in the same price range, which means it holds onto our Editors' Choice award for sub-$500 tablets.

Judged in complete isolation, Apple’s 10th generation iPad is a great tablet. It feels more like a modern member of the iPad family than a budget afterthought thanks to its flattened edges, revamped Touch ID sensor, and four equal bezels. The performance is everything you could ask for from an everyday tablet with a big display, and the battery life is nothing to scoff at. Anyone with experience in the Apple ecosystem can pick up iPadOS 16 and know where everything is and how it operates within minutes. The problem is that the iPad (10th generation) doesn’t exist within a vacuum. Instead, it has to be put into context against its predecessor and the rest of Apple’s lineup. The $120 price increase takes the tablet from a slam-dunk value to a slightly underpowered alternative within striking distance of the iPad Air (5th generation) ($559 at Amazon) and iPad Mini (6th generation) ($459.98 at Amazon). When you consider that Apple still offers the previous ninth-generation iPad ($299 at Amazon), it further hurts the value proposition.

So, the iPad 10th Gen is fresh and new, finally ditching the old-school design that has graced the lineup for years, and has scored some cool new tricks to boot, elevating it on a mostly equal playing field with the rest of the iPad lineup. However, it has also migrated from its usual super-affordable position, which remains the residence of last year's iPad 9th Gen, for a slightly more premium price point. It's still a great bang for the buck, don't get us wrong, but the value-for-money factor is not as good this time around. There's nothing inherently wrong with the iPad 10th Gen: it still gets the basics right and elevates the base iPad experience to new dimensions. For school or for not-so-professional use cases, the 10th-generation iPad is hard to beat, but so is the iPad 9th Gen, and for slightly more money, the iPad Air is really hard to pass up. Should you get the new iPad 10th Gen? I'd recommend it if you're not willing to break the bank on a tablet, but would also carefully consider my choices. If it fits perfectly within yuor budget, you should definitely short-list this one.

We have the new Apple Smart Folio. This is pretty much the same as before, it just folds over and it’s a bit of a front and back cover to protect your iPad. But the one that’s really cool, is the Magic Keyboard Folio. Now this one I’m excited about because it is a two-piece design, which even the other Magic Keyboard that you get on the iPad Pro doesn’t do, meaning that you can have just the keyboard attached, or just the back of it attached to protect the back, or both! Also, the keyboard now has as a track pad which is fantastic, driving your iPad with a trackpad is just a new experience. It’s almost more laptop-like so that’s a really good thing. And lastly, it uses the Smart Connector as well meaning that it will power the keyboard and sync to it, so you don’t have to worry about Bluetooth connections or anything else like that. It’s got a little stand, so you can fold out a stand and then the keyboard part folds down. So it’s super cool and this is definitely a good attachment to have. I really like it and I think that it’ll make it more like a laptop.

Check out ESR Cases for iPad 10: https://amzn.to/3TA82zd, use code ESRIPADUS for 10% off. The iPad 10 is available in 4 colors, and now has straight sides and slightly smaller bezels like the rest of the (higher end) iPad lineup. The FaceTime front camera has been moved to the landscape side, the tablet drops the Lightning port for USB-C and it’s powered by the A14 Bionic CPU. 5G is optional, as is the Apple Pencil 1 and new Magic Keyboard Folio.

Obviously, the elephant in the room with this year's iPad is its price: $449 is not a small ask, especially when compared with the $329 iPad (9th Gen) that Apple still sells, and the fact that you're only getting 64GB of onboard storage. Just my initial batch of apps and services filled up 15GB on my tester. If you're shopping on a budget, last year's iPad should make the most sense -- Apple clearly thinks that, too. But I can't help but compare the 10th-gen iPad with the rest of Apple's hierarchy, all of which remain pricier and, in several aspects, are not as good as the vanilla model. In the broader context, here's what I'd suggest buying now:

Finally the entry-level iPad gets a design overhaul that makes it look much more up-to-date. The new Apple model brings a larger screen, some boisterous new colour options, and it's an all-round better product than its predecessor. However, it's also more expensive, and given the close proximity to the iPad Air it does leave a slight question as to its worth in the fuller iPad line-up. But many will love it.

With a stunning new edge-to-edge screen, more power under its aluminium body, improved cameras and refreshed keyboard accessory, this is the entry-level iPad upgrade many have been waiting for. It's brighter, faster and finally ditches the ageing bezels which makes it look so much better than before. With all of those new features and improved design, this should be a very easy tablet to recommend but it's not that simple. Don't get us wrong, this new device is very good and owners will love using it but there's a list of things to know before taking the plunge. Firstly, it's way more expensive that the 9th Gen iPad - which remains on sale via Apple Store. Then there's the A14 Bionic processor which isn't compatible with Stage Manager's screen sharing - that's one of the best new features in iPadOS 16!

This iPad is more like an “Air lite,” and it’s a common strategy for the company. In 2020, Apple took the iPad Pro design and put it in the iPad Air and subsequently bumped the price. Now Apple is doing that again, taking the Air design, putting it in the base model, and making it more expensive. My hope is that within a year or two, Apple adds support for the second-generation Pencil to this model and cuts the price below $400 again. That would make for an iPad that is easy to recommend. But for now, despite a number of improvements, this iPad is sandwiched between two models that probably make more sense for most buyers.

The new iPad 2022 (10th gen) delivers almost everything you could want in a modern tablet, offering a larger display than last year’s iPad along with a sleeker design, faster A14 Bionic chip and USB-C charging. The Magic Keyboard is comfy to use, and I like the repositioned front camera, too. But this tablet costs $120 more than the 9th gen iPad, and the 1st gen Apple Pencil is too awkward to charge.

But what if you have more cash to spend and want something more capable? The iPad Air (2022) gives you Apple’s much more powerful M1 chip with a dedicated media engine, a higher-quality laminated display, and it works with the second-gen Apple Pencil. Whether you want to do some light productivity work or need a reliable tablet for drawing, the Air delivers all of it more elegantly than the iPad (2022). And while the iPad Air retails for $599, you can now find it on sale at pretty significant discounts (Amazon has it down to $519 right now). Who’s the iPad (2022) for, then? Your guess is as good as mine! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing the iPad (2022), and it’s a product that’s very easy to love. But when it comes time for you to buy a new iPad, I don’t think it’s the one you should get.

It’s likely that this iPad will be the entry-level iPad at some point, fully replacing the ninth-gen model. But I hope that Apple brings the price down quite a bit by the time that happens and adds the headphone jack back (which is, admittedly, unlikely to happen). Until then, the 10th-gen iPad sits as a weird sub-midrange, not really budget-level middle child in Apple’s sprawling iPad lineup.

Apple has successfully migrated the base iPad from its classic, first-gen Air looks to an iPad Pro-influenced design, and the result is a high-quality, versatile tablet that will satisfy the broadest set of users, from fun-lovers and content-consumers to those looking to get some work done (with the addition of a separately purchased keyboard cover). While the price hike is dismaying, and the lack of Pencil 2 support is just plain wrong, the iPad 10.9 more than earns its keep, and is a worthy addition to our Best Tablets list.

There are some fair criticisms to be made about the new iPad, but it’s still an excellent machine. I’m a little frustrated about the weird accessory support and the fact that the device has USB 2.0, but in a vacuum, this iPad is a killer tablet. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum, of course. In its current lineup, it’s hard to figure out if this is a more expensive base-model iPad, or a cheaper iPad Air. If you are planning on using your tablet for heavier productivity, the iPad Air M1 is a better solution. It pretty much solves all the issues I have with the 10th-gen iPad. It supports the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Gen 2, and its M1 chip makes it more powerful, and capable of supporting new software. The only downsides? The higher price and the front-facing camera placement. But most folks will likely be using iPads in the lower price range for watching movies, playing occasional games, browsing the web, checking emails, and keeping the kids quiet for a few minutes. You know, iPad things. Those are things that the 9th-generation iPad can do perfectly well. If you want an iPad for basic tasks like that, you should seriously consider the 9th-gen or even a refurbished 8th-generation model. There’s a sliver of the market in between the two. If you don’t mind spending a little more for an iPad with a bigger screen and a modern design, but don’t want to stretch to the iPad Air, then the 10th-gen iPad is for you. You won’t be disappointed.

There is a powerful push to make the new iPad more computer-like with the Magic Keyboard Folio, but I'm still not sure if that's the right market for this device. The new iPad can hit up to $928 with the keyboard, substantially more than the entry-level iPad/keyboard combo that comes in at $648. There's no denying there's a jump-up in quality. Still, the market was looking for a new entry-level iPad and not a slightly less expensive iPad Air that can't run Stage Manager, despite being about as powerful as the second-generation iPad Pro that released in 2018 (which, as a side note, is no small feat).

Apple’s new iPad, then, is predictably good. But it’s also disappointingly expensive and it’s a shame this model doesn’t use the 2nd gen Apple Pencil. But there’s much more positive than negative here – this is a big upgrade over the 9th generation model with various welcome enhancements, such as the landscape camera and the more powerful processor. The move to USB-C for the standard iPad range is, of course, welcome. The similarities to the 2020 iPad Air are striking (even if the screen tech is different) and it’s great that the newer iPad design has finally moved down to the ‘standard’ iPad range. It’s a sensible option if you don’t want Apple Pencil support at all, want that bigger display or don’t want to or need to stretch to the iPad Air. And it’s always worth remembering that despite Apple’s more premium iPads, this is all the iPad most buyers will ever need.

Microsoft's Surface Go 3 is the obvious competitor on that front, and boasts a cheaper starting price, though by the time you reach a less-frustrating hardware configuration — and add in the optional keyboard and pen — the Windows tablet's price is about on par with Apple's. Chrome OS, meanwhile, has some reasonable options, though we'll probably need to see what next year's Android-based Pixel Tablet offers to see Google's most direct alternative. As a package, then, Apple's offer this year really does feel well suited to its target audience. I suspect a lot of people who might consider an M1 MacBook Air would be just as much at home doing the same tasks on the new iPad with the Magic Keyboard Folio. I wish the latter was $50 to $100 less expensive, but it's still a pairing that starts at $698 — or $848 with the useful integrated 5G that Apple continues to withhold from its laptop range. The same sort of setup with the old iPad felt a little more cramped, and the typing experience was less refined with its more basic keyboard cover. With proper keys this time around, and pushing the screen out to better fill the available space, the 2022 iPad feels less like a budget compromise. As a result, while you could go cheaper, you probably shouldn't.

On the back of this iPad we get a single 12MP wide camera with autofocus, Smart HDR 3, capable of recording videos at up to 4K, 60FPS, which is quite impressive for an affordable tablet. Perhaps more notably, this iPad also gets a 12MP ultra wide landscape front camera, which is the perfect positioning for video calls. Previous budget iPads had it in the center of the right bezel (when the device was in landscape), which was quite less than ideal. Center Stage is here too! Thanks to that front camera being ultra wide, this feature is feasible, and available. It basically makes the front camera auto zoom at your face and keep you in the center of the video call frame, even if you're moving around. As if you have your own camera operator, which is pretty cool! Stay tuned for our full review soon! In the meantime, let us know what you think about this new (arguably) "budget" iPad!

Karty te nie nadają się zupełnie do gier 3D, ale wystarczą do obsługi
aplikacji biurowych i korzystania z internetu.
