The low TGP of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 makes it difficult to recommend the top-spec model of the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra, then, but the less costly models do make plenty of sense. If you’re looking for a Windows laptop for video-editing or heavy creative purposes, this is a seriously tempting machine. It’s fast, the display is wonderful and the chassis is both well constructed and relatively compact. Pick up the cheapest model and you can upgrade the SSD quickly yourself, using the spare internal M.2 port, so you have significant storage for relatively little cash compared with a MacBook Pro. The only thing to be aware of is that, just because the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra has an RTX 40-series GPU inside, doesn’t mean it’s a fully fledged gaming portable.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is a fine choice for creators. The 3K screen provides excellent colour accuracy, the graphics performance is enough to tackle heavy workloads and it’s portable enough to take on your travels. Is it good enough to thwart the MacBook Pro? Not quite. Apple’s laptop offers superior battery life, a marginally better performance and a more luxurious design. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra runs it close, and is one of the best attempts I’ve seen from a Windows laptop in the creativity market. The high price is a problem, however, costing upwards of £3000/$3000 if you want the best specs for a high performance. The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED represents better value and the Razer Blade 16 can be found with similar specs at a cheaper price. The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra is a thin ultrabook in the style of a MacBook Pro or the Dell XPS. It's sleek, it's powerful, and it's expensive. Before we even get into its capabilities, the display technology will be the main attraction point here, particularly given Samsung's expertise in that field. It's also worth pointing out that this is the first Galaxy Book to feature an Nvidia GeForce GPU (the RTX 4070 no less). So our expectation of its screen is very high. The Galaxy Book 3 Pro isn’t as class-leading as its price may suggest. But there are many highlights including a gorgeous 120Hz AMOLED display (14in or 16in), an impressive selection of ports and stellar battery life. You also get Samsung’s trademark premium design, plus some great video calling features. Performance is solid too, but it can’t handle the demanding workloads you might associate with a ‘Pro’ laptop. With the Ultra taking many of the headlines and 360 models offering more functionality for less, the Book 3 Pro ends up in an awkward middle ground. It impressed with its performance, display, and speakers, but that can only get you so far if the battery life can’t even last a workday. There’s some tough competition out here. If you want to prioritize battery life, check out the ZenBook 14, which nears 11 hours of battery life all for just $749. However, there’s a lot to like about the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro. You do sacrifice a bit of the portability from the regular Book3 Pro, so it’s more a matter of preference. Though this isn’t some tricked-out beast of a machine, its 13th-gen Intel CPU is more than enough for anyone who needs an excellent work machine. Pricing is a bit steep but that’s to be expected of a Samsung Galaxy ultrabook. It remains to be seen what actual performance, sound quality, ventilation, and more will look like but hopefully, those numbers will be enough to land it on our best 2-in-1 laptop list when it drops in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be frank. My initial impressions of the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra were not great. I figured out that I needed to switch the display to 60Hz and run in optimized mode to get a good battery-life-to-performance ratio, and gaming performance is now stellar once I realized that Nvidia DLSS works magic on RTX GPUs. While I wish some of these things were a little more obvious out of the box, this sort of tweaking isn't uncommon on Windows machines. On the positive side, all of the unique Samsung Galaxy ecosystem features were as plug-and-play as I could have possibly hoped for. Linking my phone and earbuds was effortless, and I can now use my Tab S7 as a second screen while I'm traveling so I don't have to lose my second monitor productivity. In a nutshell, the things that make the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra unique are the things that work really, really well, and that's a testament to how good of a device Samsung has built. I just wish it worked with an S Pen.

It wouldn’t be totally unfair to say last year’s Galaxy Book laptops were middle-of-the-road machines. They stuck to 1080p screens, while rivals were nudging closer to 4K, and had largely plastic builds to keep weight in check – something that didn’t gel with the premium prices. The Galaxy Book 3 Pro series fixes all that. The 16in model is a well-built machine thanks to its all-metal construction, has a gorgeous 16:10 OLED display that keeps pace with big-name rivals, and desktop performance is really rather tasty thanks to those Intel internals. The keyboard isn’t perfect, though. Battery life could also be better, and on-the-go gamers will be more interested in the Galaxy Book3 Ultra and its dedicated Nvidia GPU. There’s nothing here we feel particularly deserves the “Pro” moniker, either. For a commuter companion that doesn’t skimp on screen space, though, it does a fantastic job.

Samsung offers the Galaxy Book3 Pro in two screen sizes and a few other configurations than the one we’ve tested. However, we’ll talk about the model we have here—14-inch, i7-1360P, 16GB RAM, and 512TB SSD, which is available for Rs 1,34,990 / $1818. At Rs 1,39,990, the Galaxy Book3 Pro is an expensive laptop. Sure, it’s got premium looks, is portable, has a very good display, and a good I/O selection, among other things, but it fails to get the most out of the capable processor under the hood owing to the laptop’s poor thermals, which makes it hard to recommend it at this price. That’s not to say the laptop performs badly. It’s just that it doesn’t qualify to be called a Pro with such a glaring issue, not to mention the integrated graphics can be a bottleneck if you plan on using it for demanding creative tasks.

Samsung is keen to make the Galaxy Book computers part of its ecosystem of Galaxy mobiles, tablets and accessories. So there’s a bunch of apps and features that enable this. You can quickly share media with other Galaxy devices, expand the screen of a Galaxy tablet, and control different devices from each other. It’s smart and convenient if you have the right gadgets around. I tested several of the features with a Galaxy Z Fold 5 I have in for testing, and they work as promised. I still haven’t figured out how to use them, but perhaps my lack of imagination is the limit. Samsung also has its own suite of programs that are intended to add value to the computer, but I’m more doubtful about what they actually add. Samsung Gallery is an image viewing program where Windows already has two good ones.
