Szkoda jednak, że POCO oferuje ten model jedynie z 4 GB pamięci RAM (w przypadku pamięci na dane mamy wybór 64/128 GB), które przestają być wystarczające - smartfon lubi czasem za długo pomyśleć i zdecydowanie za szybko ubija aplikacje w tle. Co więcej, użytkownicy M5 ograniczeni są do łączności LTE, bo smartfon nie wspiera 5G, co pod koniec 2022 roku staje się coraz trudniejsze do zaakceptowania, nawet w budżetowej półce cenowej. Podobnie zresztą jak ładowanie o mocy 18W, które wymaga od nas ponad dwugodzinnej randki z ładowarką - tak, dużo osób i tak ładuje smartfon w nocy, ale czasem zachodzi potrzeba podładowania w ciągu dnia i wtedy mamy problem. Zdecydowanie łatwiej przymknąć oko na dosłownie jeden użyteczny obiektyw, szczególnie że sprawuje się całkiem dobrze. Mówiąc krótko, wystarczyłoby kilka drobnych zmian, a POCO M5 stałoby się potencjalnym hitem sprzedażowym, ale z drugiej strony trudno byłoby wtedy utrzymać tak niską cenę, bo obecnie moją testową wersję 4/64 GB można kupić za 849 zł.

Odpowiedż na to pytanie nie jest takie proste jakby się mogło wydawać. Telefon ma sporo ciekawych rozwiązań, które nieco ratują sytuację. Pytanie, czy przykrywają one wszystkie niedociągnięcia? Jeżeli zamierzasz się z kupnem niedrogiego urządzenia z rewelacyjną baterią i nie przeszkadza Ci średniej jakości aparat oraz ekran IPS, a w dodatku nie jesteś fanem gamingu, to POCO M5 jest rozsądnym wyborem. Z kolei, jeśli stawiasz głównie na gaming, albo szukasz telefonu z dobrym zapleczem fotograficznym, to smartfon nie jest dla Ciebie. POCO M5 raczej nie zajmie miejsca w zestawieniu najbardziej opłacalnych telefonów. Ale trzeba też mu przyznać, że wcale taki najgorszy nie jest. Mimo swoich wad nawet go polubiłem. Z tym że moja podróż wraz z nim trwała krótko i nie chciałbym jej dalej kontynuować.

Natomiast wydanie na Poco M5 aż 1000 złotych — tyle kosztuje wersja 128 GB — nie ma sensu. Za podobne lub niewiele większe pieniądze kupimy smartfony o zbliżonej wydajności, a często z ekranami OLED i/lub obsługą sieci 5G. Dobrym przykładem może być tu kosztujący 1099 złotych (cena z oficjalnego sklepu Xiaomi) starszy Poco F4 Pro 5G, który ma ekran LCD 90 Hz, modem 5G, moduł szerokokątny w głównym aparacie, głośniki stereo i przednią cyfrówkę o rozdzielczości 16 MP (przeczytaj nasz test tego smartfonu). Z kolei 1049 złotych zapłacimy za siostrzany Redmi Note 11 — z ekranem AMOLED 90 Hz i głównym aparatem 50 MP, ale i z modułem szerokokątnym (przeczytaj jego test). Jak zatem widać, sama wewnętrzna konkurencja w stajni Xiaomi jest dla Poco M5 bezlitosna, a ponadto za około 1000 złotych upolujemy też w promocji Samsunga Galaxy M23 5G z chipsetem Snapdragon 750G, ekranem LCD 120 Hz i z modułem szerokokątnym w głównym aparacie. Takich przykładów znajdziemy oczywiście na rynku więcej, na przykład w ofercie firmy Realme (chocby model Realme 9i, przeczytaj jego test). W pewnym sensie Poco M5 jest więc taką rynkową zapchajdziurą, bo... jakieś nowości muszą przecież się pojawiać — niby odrobinę tańszy, ale też funkcjonalnie słabszy od wielu konkurentów, jak choćby od wciąż dostępnych u nas modeli z serii Poco M4.

This is the latest Smart Phone from a new company to me. POCO is the gaming arm of Xiaomi who I have reviewed phones from in the past. The M5 can switch refresh rates Video 30Hz or 60Hz, Gaming 60Hz or 90Hz and Scrolling at 30-60-90 Hz. Overall the cost of this POCO offing is not very much at all.

Everything around us is getting more expensive, so it’s not so easy to create cheap smartphones. After testing the M5, I can say that its brother, the M5s, although a reissue of a year-old model from the Redmi line, looks more interesting (stereo speakers, better camera quality and a wide-angle module, 33W charging, AMOLED screen) at a slightly higher price. Among the advantages of the M5 are a slightly more powerful processor, 90 Hz screen refresh rate, and, of course, an unusual design. And yes, there’s also a charger in the package, which was a pity for the M5s. At first glance, it seemed to me that POCO M5 would be more attractive if it were cheaper. However, I repeat, everything is getting more expensive. And if you look at the current price with discounts, the model has no adequate competitors. And the ones that do have a weaker processor or some other aspects that are critically flawed. And to get something better, you have to pay more. Among the POCO M5‘s competitors, the Samsung Galaxy A13 (not the most advanced hardware, but better cameras and a great shell) and Redmi Note 11 (33W charging, AMOLED screen, 90 Hz) are worthy of note. However, I still think it’s better to overpay for the POCO M5s, or its twin from last year, the Redmi Note 10S. POCO M5 is one of the cheapest smartphones in the POCO/Xiaomi range. It stands out for its design with a leather-like back, a 90 Hz screen, a capacious battery, and a top-of-the-line processor (for a budget phone). Photos are good in sufficient light. Cons - bad photos in less than ideal lighting, a mono speaker, not the best screen color reproduction and poor readability in the sun, no wide-angle camera. As you can see, there are drawbacks, but still, for the current price, this is probably the most interesting inexpensive smartphone.

Though, you can choose any other option that fits your requirements.

Our verdict of the Poco M5 is a tad different from the Poco M4 5G's just due to the price difference. While both devices offer largely the same user experience, the Poco M5 is definitely a more desirable alternative in the sub-€200 category. The LTE device has a decent display running at 90Hz for some smooth scrolling, an excellent loudspeaker, and adequate performance for fluent everyday operation, which isn't a given in this low-end class. It also has a proper ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor, an IR blaster and NFC. These aren't all that common among budget phones either. The phone also offers excellent battery endurance, mature and capable MIUI 13 software and, last but not least, a design that stands out and is particularly comfortable to hold even without a case. This leaves us with just one complaint - the max screen brightness. An LCD that only goes as high as 448nits leaves a lot to be desired in outdoor use. At the end of the day, the Poco M5 is a low-end device with a pretty basic feature set and hardware. The latter seems adequate for the asking price, but we can't help thinking of the other Xioami-branded alternatives. We strongly recommend taking a closer look at those because you may get a bit more for your money.

The Poco M5 is a great budget smartphone. It has great-looking hardware, excellent benchmark performance, fluid software experience, superb battery life, and a fairly good 90Hz display. There are some nice perks like a headphone jack, micro SD card support, and NFC onboard. And the main camera performance is more than adequate considering the price. So what are the downsides you ask? Well, the single speaker is quite average, the charging speeds are quite slow, the selfie camera could be better and there’s no ultrawide camera. For an entry-level smartphone, I believe the POCO M5 checks all the right boxes. If you want a smartphone that has better speakers, faster-charging speeds, and an ultrawide camera, well it’s easy. Just get the slightly more expensive POCO M5s. But keep in mind that the more expensive device has an inferior MediaTek processor. But for just €189 the POCO M5 packs a serious punch for a budget smartphone.

Jakby tego było mało, przez zastępowanie starego nowym, jest spora szansa że Redmi Note 10S częściej pojawi się na promocji lub w drugim obrocie za niższą kwotę. W chwili gdy piszę ten tekst Note 10S jest w promocji, która obniża kwotę wszystkich modeli i kolori poniżej czterocyfrowej liczby. W takiej wojnie zwycięstwo POCO M5s jest wręcz niemożliwe. Gdyby M5s wydano obok Note 10S i sprzedawano go za 50-100 złotych mniej niż obecnie, ocena z pewnością byłaby o pół oczka wyższa i poleciłbym go z czystym sercem jako alternatywę o mniejszej ilości pamięci RAM. W tej sytuacji jednak zostawiam go z 6,8 na 10 i liczę, że w przyszłości Xiaomi lepiej przemyśli opracowywanie modelu bliźniaczego.

POCO M5s pokazał mi, że dobre czasy tanich smartfonów już za nami. Niestety, ale coraz gorsza sytuacja gospodarcza na całym świecie sprawia, że wszystko drożeje i nie ma miejsca na rewolucje technologiczne w tej klasie. Dlatego nie tylko POCO, ale całe Xiaomi, realme i inne popularne firmy muszą z tym walczyć. Tylko POCO M5s może się podobać. Szczególnie ze względu na swój wygląd, który niejako nawiązuje do droższych modeli, ale też ogólnie konstrukcja świetnie leży w dłoni. W niej udało się zmieścić spory akumulator, który może nie ładuje się szybko, ale wystarcza na długo. Również wyświetlacz może przypaść do gustu, mimo że oferuje tylko podstawową częstotliwość odświeżania. Oszczędności czuć po procesorze, który nie oferuje nadmiaru mocy obliczeniowej, ale na dzisiaj jest w pełni wystarczający. Podobnie jest z aparatami, które nawiązują do starszych generacji smartfonów.

Wyniki wydajnościowe pozostawiają wiele do życzenia. Nie jest źle, ale to zdecydowanie za mało, by móc komfortowo zagrać w niektóre produkcje mobilne. Plusem tutaj jest na pewno aspekt audio z gniazdem Jack 3,5 mm na czele. Same głośniki również nie należą do najgorszych, choć trochę razi ich nierówność. W przypadku zdjęć, Xiaomi POCO M5s spisuje się co najwyżej przeciętnie. Da się tutaj zrobić całkiem ostre zdjęcia, lecz są one blade i bez życia. Dodatkowo, obiektyw szeroki i macro są tu głównie dla ozdoby, bo ich jakość jest po prostu słaba. Urządzenie nie radzi sobie szczególnie z robieniem zdjęć w nocy i nie pomaga tu nawet tryb nocny, który wydłuża czas naświetlania. W oficjalnym sklepie Xiaomi, POCO M5s kosztuje 1199 złotych. Nie jest to mało, biorąc pod uwagę to, jak spisuje się ten model. W tej cenie, lub niewiele wyższej można dostać kilka porównywalnych, a w niektórych aspektach lepszych urządzeń. Należy jednak pamiętać, że smartfon niedawno miał swoją premierę, a co za tym idzie, w najbliższych miesiącach może stanieć, bądź pojawić się w promocyjnych cenach.

We are looking at a clone of last year's Redmi model, which means that the company is essentially trying to sell the same phone for the second time. POCO M5s has a high-quality AMOLED screen, long battery life and 33W charging, stereo speakers, and adequate performance. Cons - poor photo quality if the lighting is not perfect, only 60 Hz screen refresh, no charger included. For the money, it's a good average. But boring.

The Poco M5s is a good all-rounder as far as affordable smartphones go. It has a sleek design, a bright and sharp display, a long-lasting battery life and a UI that is simple but still very customisable. The camera is a bit hit-and-miss with the 64-megapixel mode offering up some great results with lots of detail, but images have a tendency to be washed out and oversharpened, especially in tricky lighting situations. However, my experience with the M5s was generally positive and, for its price, I don’t think it should be written off at all.

The Poco M5s is somewhat of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it has solid specs like an AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging, stellar dual speakers, expandable storage and 64MP / 8MP main and ultrawide cameras. But on the other, it runs a two-year-old 12nm MediaTek Helio G95 chipset and refreshes at just 60Hz. Granted the overall hardware and form factor looks really nice, but it is still a carryover from the Redmi Note 10 series from early 2021. In addition, there are a few really oddball downgrades from the excellent POCO M4 Pro such as a lower resolution selfie camera and a slightly larger size. The only thing POCO has managed in this sky-high inflation era is to hold the base MSRP to €209. While it is a good smartphone for the price it makes too many compromises to achieve it. You may want to shop around a bit or pay a bit more and get a better POCO smartphone instead.
