All things considered, the Honor X7a isn’t a phone you would probably choose if you had the budget to buy something more powerful. But if you are looking for the first smartphone for your kid or something to use for business, then you can’t go wrong with this one. It’s very affordable at the price of PHP 7,990, and it has everything you might need in a phone. Hardware-wise, you could say there are more powerful options out there, and that’s true. However, if you just need another phone to answer calls, text, and maybe do some very light gaming, then why not consider the Honor X7a. You do get a very large battery with it too along with a decent camera.

But even after that, the battery life can be considered the only plus point of this phone. We will recommend this phone if you are getting any additional deals. But for now, we suggest you should go with the choice. For example, the Xiaomi Redmi 11 Prime 5G comes out with decent options that will allow users to use 5G connectivity and support impressive display quality. Finally, make the decision that fits your budget and needs.

That’s it for my review of the Honor X7a. While the phone has an impressive battery life and a nice design, it simply does not offer much else. So, all things considered, I believe Honor could have done a much better job with the X7a. So this isn’t the best you can get for the money. You can find much better options like the Poco M5, Moto G31, or Redmi Note 11 from last year. Honor X7a has an appealing design and a long-lasting battery. However, its mediocre processor selection, average cameras, and sluggish UI experience keep it unnoticed in the competition. Smartphones like the Poco M5 and Moto G31 offer much better value for a similar price.

Honor released its new 5G smartphone known as Honor X7a in January 2023 with a price tag of $193 (Rs 15,990 in India) approx. The Honor X7a equips a massive Li-Po 6000 mAh battery with 22.5W wired and 5W reverse charging support. As for color options, the Honor X7a is available in Titanium Silver, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black color variants. For display specs, you will obtain a 6.75 inches TFT LCD display panel that renders a 720 x 1600 pixels resolution. Under the hood, the Honor X7a smartphone is powered by the 12nm Mediatek MT6765H Helio G37 chipset that will ensure you don’t face any trouble in your daily activities. At the same time, you are getting Android 12 OS with the Magic UI 6.1 custom skin. Moving to internal storage, the Honor X7a smartphone offers a single variant of 128GB space that will be accompanied by 6GB RAM. For camera specs, the Honor X7a smartphone comes with a quad camera setup which includes a 50MP main camera lens that gives immersive captures. Also a 5MP ultrawide and a duo of 2MP macro and depth camera lens is also present to improve image quality. As far as the video recording matters, you can expect the phone to record 1080p resolution without any gyro-EIS support, while for selfies you get a decent 8MP selfie lens on the front.

The Honor X7a starts the year off by achieving the No. 1 spot in our battery ranking, thanks to its outstanding autonomy performance, which measured 3 days and 14 hours in moderate usage — the best we have tested so far. The Honor X7a’s overall battery performance overtook the Oppo Reno 6 5G, which stayed at the top of the global battery ranking since September thanks to its overall balanced performance. The X7a’s 6000 mAh battery tested the limits of autonomy and surpassed that of the previous autonomy powerhouse, the Vivo Y72 5G, which managed to bring in a slightly lower autonomy with a 5000 mAh battery. Besides a strong performance in a mixed usage scenario, the Honor X7a was also a top performer in some use cases such as gaming, calling, video, and music streaming. And finally, even when on the go and tested outside, the Honor X7a’s ability to manage its power proved to be excellent. When it came to discharge efficiency, the device drained very low discharge currents, which means that it is well-optimized. Despite its staying power, the device’s user experience was undermined by an inaccurate battery gauge. When the phone displayed 20% of power left on the screen, the true capacity was measured at close to 16%. When the device showed 1% of power on its screen, it would shut down automatically after a minute. When charging the device, the small 22.5W power adapter struggled to fill the large 6000 mAh battery. A 5-minute top-up charge provided only 4 hours of autonomy. Moreover, the charge efficiency, as well as the power adapter efficiency, was poor. Still, the Honor X7a’s unprecedented autonomy performance in our tests shows that battery endurance, regardless of battery size, will continue to be a key focus for smartphone manufacturers this year.

That’s it for my review of the Honor X8a. This phone has a pretty impressive display as well as an average camera and an eye-catching design. But, all things considered, I don’t think this phone is worth buying in this price range. It could have been a better offering if it had been launched in the 20-22k price range. You can find much better options like the Realme 10, Redmi Note 12 (4G), and Poco X5. The Honor X8a boasts an appealing appearance as well as an acceptable chipset and camera. However, the price point at which it hit the market hinders it from standing out in the competition. You are getting a pretty standard configuration without any improvement in the hardware or software segment. On top of that, the phone only supports 4G connectivity, which might be a big turn-off for many people. We won’t recommend this phone because the company doesn’t improve the basic features, and X8a is not a value-for-money phone. Instead of this, you can check out the Motorola Moto G72, if you are looking for a 4G phone in the first place. On the other hand, you can also look for Realme V30 as an affordable 5G choice.

All in all, the Honor X6a is a decent offering at the price range with its highs and lows. The battery backup is excellent, the cameras are okay. And, the performance — it’s liveable with. It is good for folks who are looking for a phone with general usage in mind like surfing the internet, snapping some photos, and playing some light games here and there. However, if you wish to get some more performance out of your phone then going with something like Redmi 12 or even the cheaper Redmi 12C is a good idea. Additionally, I am always sceptical about the longevity of budget phones, and this one is no different. The Honor X5 Plus is truly a balanced smartphone that has just enough specs to provide a good user experience in every way. While you can’t call any of the specs particularly groundbreaking, you can’t expect a lot in this price range anyway. It has a great design, a high refresh-rate display, a decent chipset, a set of good cameras, and a high-capacity battery. What more could you ask for at this price range? The smartphone also lacks 5G connectivity, which we understand can be a dealbreaker for some people. We were honestly surprised by how well-made and balanced this smartphone was. But you know what they say, there’s always another fish in the sea and they are not wrong. The Xiaomi Redmi 13C is one such smartphone but provides better specs in many areas and is available for a similar or slightly higher price tag depending on where you live. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

So, there are quite a lot of compromises being made here. The device provides the best refresh rate you can get at this price, a quality OS experience, and a good battery life. But all these are overshadowed by the laggy performance, leading the screen to not reach its maximum threshold most of the time, slower charging, and average cameras. A better phone would be the Redmi 12C at a much cheaper price. This substitute provides better performance and a better camera. Charging is similar, though! And, for the best camera in the price range, go for the Samsung A04. However, if you can, I would highly recommend adding an extra 2.5k and gunning it for the Redmi 12 (review) which is better than all of the above and brings a well-rounded package at an affordable price.

Out of the box, the Honor X5 Plus comes with MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13. MagicOS itself is quite good, but due to the phone’s relatively slow performance, the UI navigation feels sluggish. It lacks the responsiveness you might find in, for example, the Redmi 12C. Nonetheless, MagicOS offers a range of features, including customization. The Yoyo suggestion on the home screen intelligently recommends frequently used apps, which I found helpful. Additionally, you can take a screenshot by tapping the screen twice or capture a partial screenshot by circling with your knuckle. Accessing multi-window by swiping from the edge and pausing works well, and you can change app icons and themes from the settings. One notable missing feature is that when adjusting the volume using the buttons, it only controls one type of volume, primarily media control, which handles music, videos, and games by default.

If Honor could have packed this smartphone with a Snapdragon 7 Gen series processor like the Honor 90 along with better cameras, then it would have been a well-balanced device for the price. Right now, we would only recommend the Honor X9b to those who do not care much about the performance or the cameras. Otherwise, there are smartphones like the Poco X6 Pro with better performance, Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G with better cameras, Moto Edge 40 Neo with better software, and the Nothing Phone (2a) with a balanced feature set, which are all better devices compared to the Honor X9b at a similar price range. Okay wrapping the Honor X9b review up, I found the Honor X9b to be a solid phone with super solid display protection and build. It ticks almost every box of the 5 pillars I mentioned at the beginning, except for the camera part. Well, I would not term it the worst camera phone in the segment, but it surely needs some optimization in both the photo and video department. Apart from that, the display is super sharp with a fluid 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 6 gen 1 is a good performer for the price and the MagicUI is a refined OS, although stuck on Android 13 for now. So, if you are looking for a phone with a really strong display, a good UI, and overall performance but can live with an average camera, the Honor X9b is a no-brainer choice! Many of the Honor X9b’s shortcomings are put into context by its price tag. At an event in Noida on Thursday, the company launched the phone on Amazon, at a starting price of Rs 25,999. If you have an ICICI bank card, you can get a Rs, 3,000 discount to take the price to Rs 22,999. This places it squarely against the Realme 12 Pro, which costs the same and has the same processor, and the Poco X6 Pro, which costs Rs 1,000 more but comes with what seems like a much better processor. Pitted against its competition, the Honor X9b clearly wins the aesthetics race. The camera island on the back and the muted Midnight Black shade looked tasteful and understated in comparison. At the price point, the question between the Honor X9b, the Poco X6 Pro and the Realme 12 Pro is about what compromises you are willing to make and what you prioritise in a phone. If you want the best processor you can get for the money, for the Dimensity 8300 ultra chipset. If you want a better telephoto lens, you might want to go with the Realme 12 Pro.

The HONOR X9b has one thing going for it but it’s a big one. As of now, there’s no other smartphone that offers this kind of toughness in the market other than its predecessor, at least not in this form factor. Most resilient phones are bulky and look like something you’re bringing into a mine or a jungle, while this phone just looks like any other regular smartphone in 2023. While it’s obviously not indestructible, it’s more than capable of handling the regular slips and drops of the accident-prone. The icing on the cake is that the X9b comes with a 365-day replacement warranty for the back and front glass, meaning that it gets replaced for free if you manage to crack it within a year. Sure, it has a mediocre camera setup and it won’t get you the best mobile gaming performance, but if neither of those things is a high priority for you and you’re just looking for a reliable and affordable smartphone that’ll last for years to come with little care, then the HONOR X9b gets my approval.

In terms of accessories, Honor has kitted the phone out with the works. You get a free soft TPU casing, a SuperCharge 35W fast charger with USB-C cable, a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle and a 3.5mm pair of headphones to go with it too. This amount of free kit with a phone is becoming vanishingly rare these days, which further adds to the value of the Honor X9b. Oddly enough, they’ve also pre-applied a screen protector on the phone itself which is somewhat amusing seeing how tough the Honor X9b is. Unfortunately we have no indication how much the Honor X9b costs in Malaysia just yet but if it’s around the price of its predecessor the X9a, it’s already set to be a winner. The Honor X9b battery showed an outstanding autonomy and efficiency performance, finding itself among the top 10 devices in our database. Equipped with a robust 5800 mAh battery, it delivered over three days of battery life when used moderately. Moreover, the device exhibited excellent battery performance whether used lightly or intensely. Light usage yielded more than four and a half days, and intense usage garnered nearly two days of autonomy. In all the separated test cases, the Honor X9b showed impressive autonomy, especially in video streaming, idle screen-on, and music streaming under both Wi-Fi and 4G conditions. Charging performance was the only area where the Honor X9b performed below average. With the 35W charger, the device took more than 2 hours to arrive at a full charge. Furthermore, when the phone displayed that its battery was 100% charged, in reality only 91.6% of the full charge was drawn from the plug.

Główne kamery okazały się niejednoznaczne. Pomocnicze czujniki 5 i 2 megapiksele są szczerze mówiąc kiepskie, czego nie można powiedzieć o głównym 108-megapikselowym module Samsunga. Zdjęcia dzienne i zdjęcia w pomieszczeniach wychodzą przyzwoicie, szczegółowość jest na wysokim poziomie, nie ma też błędów w oddaniu kolorów. Niestety brak stabilizacji optycznej negatywnie wpływa na zdjęcia nocne, ale za pewnymi szumami nietrudno dostrzec szczegóły. Dźwięk stereo jest obecny, choć jego głośność i balans nie są sztandarowe. Miłośnicy muzyki docenią także osobne gniazdo słuchawkowe. Dostępne są także płatności zbliżeniowe NFC. Jednak połączenie zalet nie czyni urządzenia bardziej produktywnym i funkcjonalnym, dlatego nie jest łatwo zdecydowanie polecić je do zakupu.

Given my experience, the X7b from Honor isn’t a bad phone by any means. It has a charming back, clicks decent photos under the sun, and gives me peace of mind in the battery department. Having said that, its value propositions just fall short of the competition at the moment. The Redmi Note 13 (review) from Xiaomi is the X7b’s greatest competitor both in terms of specs and pricing and offers a better overall value in my opinion. Starting off with similarities, you are going to get about the same raw performance on both devices with their Snapdragon chips but Redmi’s 120Hz refresh rate is just going to make everything feel smoother. And since it’s AMOLED, the display contrast, colors, and viewing experience are going to be better on the Note as well. Its stereo speakers also sound a bit more balanced and you are getting a slightly better ultrawide too.

If you are one of those people who are seeking a smartphone that can provide good performance– even though its a bit dated kind of chipset, average battery life, and a good display within a midrange budget, this can be a good choice. But if you are looking for a smartphone with a great set of cameras, skip the HONOR x8b or you might get a little underwhelmed. For pricing, the Honor X8b is priced at PHP 12,999 and if you sign up for pre-order, you will get a free HONOR Choice X5 earbuds worth PHP 1,590. Hurry because this pre-order promo is only until February 23, 2024.

The Honor X8b possesses a unique set of specs and features that make it stand out among other smartphones in the same price range. The pros of the smartphone include its superior display, attractive design, cameras, and battery. However, there are a few cons as well, such as the lack of 5G connectivity and a good secondary camera. The lack of 5G is also a dealbreaker for many, especially in 2024. Its chipset could have also been better. The Honor X8b’s chipset has more than decent performance for sure, but there are other smartphones in the market that have better chipsets in the same price range. If you want a good-looking smartphone where you can watch a lot of movies or TV series or do some social media activities, then this smartphone is for you. That’s because it has a great display and a fantastic battery backup, which will surely help in those cases. But if you are a gamer, then you need 5G connectivity for lower latency and need better chipset. In this case, other smartphones could be better in this regard.

HONOR X8b review - Great looking phone with decent performance

Overall, the HONOR X8b is a pretty decent phone for RM1000. The sleek plain leather back cover design is indeed one of the highlights and is usually only available on flagships. While granted its tech specs are just mid-range, that's what you're supposed to get in this price range. At least the display features are pretty good for video streaming, and the camera does a decent job. It's also enough to do your normal social media stuff. The HONOR X8b is in the same price range as the OPPO A79 (RM1199) and realme 10 (RM899). While the former has a 5000mAh battery with a faster 67W fast charging, the latter is equipped with a Helio G99 chipset and the same 90Hz Super AMOLED display. Each phone has its unique operating system, so we guess it's up to you which one you prefer.
