Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8746 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured.

Nowy panel 120 Hz jest nieco jaśniejszy niż podstawowy panel 60 Hz (500 nitów w porównaniu do 400 nitów). Jednak wzrost ten nie jest wystarczający, aby zrobić zauważalną różnicę na zewnątrz, więc widoczność jest zadowalająca tylko w świetle słonecznym lub przy dużym zachmurzeniu.

Warunki testowania

Przed uruchomieniem poniższych testów porównawczych ustawiliśmy system Windows w tryb wydajności.

Procesor

Warto zauważyć, że oryginalny Laptop 13.5 w 2021 roku był dostarczany z procesorami z serii Core U. Nowsze modele oferowałyby opcje Core-P i Core-H, które są szybsze, ale także bardziej wymagające niż Core U. Ponieważ podstawowe rozwiązanie chłodzące pozostaje w dużej mierze takie samo, konfiguracje z Core-P i Core-H powinny być zatem bardziej podatne na dławienie, gdy są obciążone. Niestety to właśnie obserwujemy w przypadku Core Ultra 7 155H w naszej jednostce testowej spadłby o 22 procent po pierwszej lub drugiej pętli w naszym teście pętli CineBench R15 xT, jak pokazano na poniższym wykresie. Procesor Core i7-1370P w zeszłorocznym Laptopie 13.5 również wykazałby podobne spadki, aż do punktu, w którym wydajność zrównałaby się z Core Ultra 7. Tak więc każdy, kto przejdzie z Core i7-1370P na Core Ultra 7 155H, nie znajdzie prawie żadnych korzyści pod względem wydajności procesora.

Dziką kartą przemawiającą na korzyść Core Ultra 7 155H jest zintegrowana jednostka NPU do akceleracji sztucznej inteligencji. W tym momencie jednak jego zastosowania są ograniczone dla większości scenariuszy użytkowania.

To świetna wiadomość z punktu widzenia możliwości naprawy i zrównoważonego rozwoju, ale oznacza to również, że większość istniejących wad z pierwotnej oryginalnej premiery w 2021 roku będzie nadal prześladować tę serię przez wiele lat.
